A Bit of a Break

These were the two seagulls

Well, to say I’ve had a bit of a break for the past few weeks is a bit of an understatement. This has been the longest period of time that I’ve been without work or school, well, ever. Or since we used to get those two month blocks of holidays when I was in Junior High.

I’ve not been up to much at all – just getting settled in Calgary, trying to figure out if I want to work in the suburb where my folks live or in the downtown area, and applying to a few jobs in the interim. I also just figured it out that, if all goes according to plan, that I’ve only got one semester (rather than one year) of school left. I’m planning on going back next year at some point to finish that off.

This picture here is from when I was in Western Australia and I was bitching about it not being 30 degrees. Well, yesterday evening it was -40 with the wind chill. The type of cold where your nostrils freeze together if you try to breathe. The cold that will travel through water pipes and burst them inside your house. The type of cold that will work through the double-paned windows. It’s strangely refreshing.

My next move, from what I can tell at this point, is to find a local job to help pay down my debts. Maybe work on a couple of creative projects (I’m learning to hook rugs, of all things), then we’ll see where live takes me from there. I’d like to do some driving around the US, and go to some of the music festivals down there at some point this year and next. I’d also like to do my Masters as well, but as with anything I guess time will tell. 🙂
